Denver Dog Park Master Plan: Provide Your Input and Take This Survey

Dogs and the Denver Lifestyle

P art of the Denver lifestyle and Mile High urban living is that Denver residents are connected to their dogs, they’re a part of the family.  Yes, we love taking them out hiking in the mountains and trails along the Front Range!

The Denver Parks and Recreation is evaluating its 7 pilot off-leash dog park program and is creating a master use plans for dogs in the Denver park system.  They’re asking Denver residents to take 15 minutes and complete a survey to provide input as they present new policy recommendations to the city.

Why Denver Dog Park Use Policy Is Important

This is a great opportunity for you to act now to let the city know responsible dogs and dog owners should be given increased off-leash access to city parks.  Sure, no one like to see dog owners not picking up after their pooches but most owners are responsible, keeping an eye on their dogs and picking up after them.  Commons Park at Riverfront in Denver is a prime example of responsible dog owners getting together and giving their dogs a chance to run and play while also providing the owners a chance to meet and interact.  Current park use regulations and ordinances forbid this and the city enforcement officers are heavily targeting these popular parks (it’s also a great source of revenue for the city).

The survey asks for input about Denver issuing off-leash tags or having off-leash hours at certain parks which are great ideas!  It also asks about increased enforcement of existing regulation.  Rather than writing more tickets to responsible owners, we need city resources to target blatantly irresponsible owner bahevior.  Make your voice heard today, fill out the survey which is be open until April 30, 2009.  Your dog will thank you!

Great article…here in Colorado Springs, we have some wonderful dog parks and they’re always crowded. Good for Denver and hopefully people will take the survey!

Derec, thanks for sharing this survey about Denver dog parks. This is a quality of life issue and it’s great to see the community collect input from its members.
