It’s hard to be anywhere close to Denver this week and not be affected by the preparations for the Democratic National Convention, with the tents set up at the Pepsi Center, holographic Secret Service passes being handed out to residents in Lodo, or Lower Downtown for you out of towners, the DNC banners hanging along Spear, and talk of closing many of the roads through town in the coming week. I have a Twitter Search set for the keyword "Denver" and am being bombarded with microblogging traffic of journalists, delegates, and other people talking about their upcoming venture to the Mile High City.
Luckily, I’ve been fortunate enough to be on a mountain retreat preview this week and have come across others that have already fled Denver to get away from the Convention chaos. Fortunately, many of the mountain resorts have been taking the convention to offer special deals for Front Range residents looking to escape and enjoy a little more tranquility. Here are a few offers that Colorado residents can take advantage of today:
The swanky Sky Hotel in Aspen, a Kimpton Hotel, is offering a DNC Escape package with a 15-20% discount off their room rate, free valet parking, and a $25 gas card to help pay for your trip out to Aspen. The Sky is magnificant hotel with the only slopeside hotel in Aspen. The staff is all extremely friendly and has been fantastic recommending things to do in the area, be it mountain biking, hiking, rafting, paragliding, or a relaxing day fishing. If you head to the Sky, make sure to make it to the free "Altitude Adjustment" wine reception in the lobby area everyday at 5pm, and enjoy a fabulous drink at 39 Degrees. If you enjoy a drink or dining here and run into the manager, Steve Miller, please take a minute to tell him you read about his place here on our blog
The Hotel Jerome, also in Aspen, is offering 10% off rooms, along with complimentary upgrades, pending availability of course.
The Ruby Bed and Breakfast in Crested Butte is taking a slightly different spin and offering a Republican Getaway Package with 10% off the room rate, a complimentary 30 minute massage for two, a bottle of champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, and a goodie basket full of John McCain paraphernalia.
The Arabelle at Vail Square is offering 15% off the lowest rate for Front Range residents and has numerous other packages available to either help you relax and enjoy time away or to find other adventures.
The Society of Leisure Enthusiasts, a portal for booking condos at various resorts, is offering 10% off summer rates and a $50 gas card through August 28 for all Colorado residents.
Regardless of your plans during the DNC, it should be an exciting adventure for Denver as we showcase our city for the entire world!
