One of my favorite events in Denver every year is the Urban Assault Race Ride, which rolls into town on uly 26 this year. This is a fun, action packed race ride takes teams of two throughout Denver to visit various checkpoints, with a challenge at each point. The race is moving its headquarters from Mile High Station, where it’s been held the previous 3 years, to Skyline park at 16th and Arapahoe in downtown Denver. I’m not sure why they moved the race this year since it’s always been fun to hang out at the after-party, though we did get booted and shut down a little early last year.
Get to Know Denver on a Bike
In addition to riding from points as far apart as Wheat Ridge Cyclery to Denver’s City Park, to Denver Wash Park, the events at each location can be a lot of fun! Last year’s race had us kayaking in the City Park, walking on keg stilts (more difficult than it sounds), bike jousting, tossing and catching newspapers (brought back childhood memories), and picking up bottle caps while wearing oven mittens and being dowsed with water. It’s a great excuse to get out and bike around Denver since route selection is important if you’re moving from the “ride” to more of a “race.” Did I mention the prize to the first finishing team is a pair of custom New Belgian Brewery cruiser bikes?

The finish line wraps up the course with a series of obstacles capped off with a water slide to get you wet to better endure the heat as you enjoy burritos and beer at the finish.
